About Me

Sarah Ferns: Physiotherapy MSc MCSP HCPC (Reg) APPI certified

Hi, I'm Sarah and I am a qualified Physiotherapist and fully certified Matwork Level 3 Pilates Instructor. I have worked in both the NHS and private sectors for a number of years as a chartered physiotherapist in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Having spent time with a variety of patients, successfully using exercise to improve their health and mobility, I decided to study Pilates to bring this benefit to all. By combining my physiotherapy knowledge and Pilates skills I can deliver safe and effective classes for all genders, ages and abilities whether you come to see me for rehab after injury, prevention of aches and pains or generally wanting to get fitter and stronger.

I also decided to obtain additional qualifications in Ante and Post Natal Pilates to be able to help ladies keep fit and prepare for labour and beyond.

About Me
Why Pilates?

Why Pilates?

Modified Pilates is based on 34 original moves developed in the 1900s by Joseph Pilates to combat and prevent injury. By using the modified Pilates program developed by The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) along with the expert advice of a qualified physiotherapist and certified Pilates trainer, this method of exercise is safe, effective and can be tailored to all abilities.

Just some of the benefits are...

Pilates Work Out
Improved posture

Become more aware of your body and its positioning

Decreased tension

Through using our breath to aid our movement, feel any muscular aches and pains disappear

Improved strength and endurance

Your whole body will be incorporated, using those often neglected deeper muscles as our core support from which we move our limbs, adding varying resistance

With great focus on the link between mind and body, leave feeling relaxed

Decreased stress
Greater movement control

Focusing on our deep stabilising muscles as a base from which we perform smooth, slow, fluid movements

Improved balance

Performing movements in all positions with coordinated movements of arms and legs

Improved joint mobility

Over time you will feel able to move more efficiently and easily

Reduction in spinal pain

By engaging the supportive stabilising muscles of our spine, protect your back from everyday stresses and strains

“You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions.”

-Joseph Pilates
